Unlike many other intern experiences, before I even walked into Merx Marketing Ltd, I felt
assured and confident. A couple of weeks before my work experience began, I had
received a call from the Merx team who kindly took the time to get to know me, my strengths
and areas I would like to improve. From this, a plan for my time with them had been created,
giving me the confidence to step into the role knowing what was expected of me. This did not
mean I had to follow that plan rigidly; in fact, the team left plenty of room for flexibility,
allowing me to adapt my tasks based on new interests I was expressing or areas I had newly
wanted to improve.

What Did I Do? - Martina's work experience with Merx Marketing
During my work experience, I had the opportunity to work across content production, graphic
design and social media, allowing me to experience hands-on how ideas move from concept
to execution. Being involved at different stages of the process helped me develop a clear
understanding of how decisions are shaped and made.
One of my main responsibilities was supporting the creation of digital content for social
media platforms. This included designing graphics and shaping post layouts, whilst keeping
brand colours, logos, messaging and consistency in mind. Maintaining a strong and
memorable brand identity online was a key focus, and this experience reinforced how
important consistency is within digital marketing. To support this process, I reviewed
previous social media content and trends, assessing what has worked well in the past. This
allowed me to identify effective styles and formats, but also highlighted the importance of
ensuring content remains interesting and not overused.
Alongside this, I was encouraged to contribute fresh ideas and put my own creative spin on
each social media post. This helped me understand how quickly digital marketing evolves
and why brands must adapt constantly but stay true to their identity. Balancing trend
awareness with brand consistency was an important learning point throughout my time at
Working on real client content pushed me to think creatively, but also strategically. Each
piece of content needed to be aligned with the brand’s objectives, suit the platform it was
being shared on and satisfy the client’s expectations. Knowing that the work I was producing
would be seen by real people and real clients gave me a sense of responsibility and pride.
What Was It Like?
The Merx Marketing work environment is truly amazing: genuinely positive and rewarding,
due to the supportive and collaborative culture. From the beginning, I felt very welcomed by
the team and encouraged to get involved, which made the transition to a professional
marketing setting very comfortable. There is a sense of calm when you walk in, people
working hard but without unnecessary stress. Colleagues collaborate,
reiterating ideas or suggesting new improvements openly, which creates a united workforce.
Projects were rarely worked on in isolation; instead, ideas were shared, discussed and refined together.
.
They are friendly and also very approachable, which made learning much easier, and feedback was aimed at helping me grow rather than simply correcting mistakes. Having the freedom to ask questions helped build my confidence around digital marketing and understand the reasoning behind creative decisions.
I was often given tasks and trusted to take ownership, which helped me feel valued and
confident in my abilities. I felt no pressure to rush my work or complete tasks at an
unrealistic pace, as the team were understanding that I was still learning. I found this
beneficial as I could take my time and ensure the work I produced was high-quality.
What I’ll Take Away From This:
My time at Merx Marketing has been a valuable learning experience that I will carry forward
in my academic journey and future career. Beyond developing technical skills, the internship
gave me a deeper understanding of how creative marketing works in a business
environment. It was also a chance to apply my university knowledge to real-life scenarios and
work on tasks and projects that will make a real impact on Merx, their clients and consumers.
This has also given me confidence in my creative abilities and strengthened my skills in
making design choices that align with brand identity and marketing objectives.
Merx Marketing is a company that truly considers every little detail, from the
brand colours and visuals to the font style and format. This has given me a stronger
understanding of brand consistency and its importance within the digital marketing
landscape. Going forward, I will carry with me the same attention to detail and high level of
effort that Merx demonstrates and apply this approach in my future work.
The trust I was given during my internship also had a lasting impact. It highlighted the
importance of supportive leadership in helping individuals grow and perform at their best.
Finally, I will take away a clear understanding of the type of working environment I want to
be part of in the future. The supportive, patient and collaborative culture at Merx Marketing
showed me how a positive work dynamic directly influences creativity and quality of work.
